Tamiya 1:20 Ferrari F1-2000 June 28, 2001 - revised Sept 2 2001 |
After 21 years Ferrari have finally won the F1 drivers championship. This will hopefully be a detailed account of the building process for this kit. I plan to do some mild detailing of the kit. This is the plan. What actually happens will hopefully be documented. During the building of a kit I do a lot of things I do instinctively. Because of this when I am asked what I have done to the model my mind sometimes goes blank. By thinking about writing this review I will write down all the things I have done to the kit to bring it to the final product. |
The initial stages if the filling of all the ejection pin marks. A long process but something that I always do. I believe this produces a better finished product. This is a personal thing but if you see one on a model it destroys the illusions of the model being realistic. |
Looking at the instructions can show you which ejector pin marks do not have to be filled. Here is the red sprue with most of the ejector pin marks filled and then sanded smooth. |
There are quite a few ejector pin marks under the body panels. This is unfortunate since there is a nice pattern underneath the rear body cowling that will be sanded away when I sand the filler down. |
Here are the tires, which are pre-printed with the manufacturer's markings. This is a very clever thing for Tamiya to do since quite a few people have had problems with lining the decals up and to even get them on the tires. Here are also the clear parts. There aren't many on an F1 car |
Here are the two decal sheets with no tobacco markings. On the bottom right is a foil sheet used to cover the rear suspension parts. This is another new thing for Tamiya |
July 27, 2001 Now to begin the detailing. I am going to detail the kit brake area. Here are some of the reference pictures I have been using. |
