Flanvention was a huge Firefly Serenity con in LA last year that a couple of friends went to. All the major actors were there except for Gina. Even Joss made an appearance. My friends had an excellent time and that was where I got my plaque signed by most of the cast. If you do not recall I am going to use this as the base of my ship. Well less then 2 weeks before the Flanvention II and work is that the con maybe canceled. I know even more friends that bought tickets, booked flights and hotels. They spent a lot of money and I heard the convention was sold out. Rumour is that the organizers (Booster Events) had used the funds from Flanvention II to support other conventions they organized and did not sell well.
My friends are having sleepless nights not knowing what the future holds. Most likely flights, hotels and vacation days can not be easily rescheduled.
Quite a messy situation.
On a side note I help out with a local convention and who knows how this might affect them. Guests may request money up front, demand more or not even do conevntions in case of something like this might happen to them.
