So where was I? Like the front windscreen it is much easier building the inner structure out of sheet styrene then trying to carve it by hand. Here the inner frame has been glued in and is drying |
Back to the skylight itself. More puttying |
The first application of automotive putty to fill in the gaps and I have trimmed a lot of the excess styrene away |
Close up |
Test fitting the skylight I had to do a but if filing to the edges of the skylight to get it to fit. |

The area has now been filed down to a smooth finish |
Another view |
Time to try and convert the LED lighting circuit to my needs |
Here is the sheet I drew up to help as a guide for the LED locations |
Close up of the sheet cut out |
A piece of sheet styrene was cut out and marked and holes drilled for the LED leads |
After all the LEDs were mounted I placed the part onto the model part to see how it fits. |

Just saw a thread on the hobby forum that Thomas Models is looking at making a master for a Firefly ship. He has made a few mockups using the plan views to gauge the size of the models. They are larger then mine. He is looking at scales from 1:144 to 1:72 with the smaller scales being solid resin and the large ones being vac-formed.
I voted for the larger one. Large means more details and a possible cockpit and cargo area, maybe even a kitchen.
It does make me want to work more on my model though the holidays may eat quite a bit of my time as I have a list of projects I have to work on. |
