SERENITY - Aug 27 2005
Woot. Well this was the SFX weekend and we had a Serenity fantable. We had games and fundraising and candy and stuff. I was going to work on the model to als ohopefully attract attention but we had so much and only 6 ft of table that we were too cramped. Also the table was so popular we did not get a lot of chances to do everything. We had a bunch of items and you were to match the items to characters in the show. Sounds easy but we had some stumpers. Some items were good for multiple people. Then Universal gave us loads of swag. We got mini posters and keyfobs and buttons to give away. These proved very popular and we noticed there were a LOT of browncoats out there who were very happy to find something realted to the show they loved in silence. But now they know we are out there.

Here is our table. I had a couple of self standing banners that we covered with Serenity/Firefly stuff. The Big poster we got from Universal and we thought that should be the main item to go on the taller banner. We were raising funds for CanFAR (Canadian Foundation for Aids Research) We chose this as this is Jewel's favourite charity. We had loads of prizes to give away so the list is at the top of teh second banner which is not as tall. We thought this should take prioroity over the Serenity Logo that I had printed out. Then under that we put up various photos we got off the internet. The banner holders were great at drawing people to us but I am sure a lot of people did not realize it was a Firefly Serenity table since they have not seen the poster yet and did not associate it with Firefly. (They do now) But a lot of people did find us and were super happy for the swag and that a movie is coming out.

Adam was signing all weekend and he did come by the table TWICE just at the times I was not there. There is a group shot with the girls and the table that I hope to include here later.

Another view of the table with super flans manning the booth. A member (not in photo) made a bunch of Jaynehats to see to raise funds and they sold out in 2 hours on the Friday. People kept coming up to our booth asking for them. A very popular item

Another photo of the table. The tray was our trivia game. Match the items in the tray to a character. It was trickey as there are a couple of obvious ones which made people think they would have no problem solving it. We had various prizes such as littel dinosaurs, lollipops, custom made fortune cookies (with Serenity/Firefly based fortunes) and hand made origami bozes which were beautiful.

The table was covered with photos from teh show and movie along with various sayings. Unfortunatley a lot of them were covered since we had so much stuff to display and give away. If we had more room more f the volunteers could have been there and promoted everything all the time instead of us having to jump from one thing to another.

Another view of the backdrop. The text under the Serenity logo says "In Space no-one can hear you yell 'Yeee haaa'"

Some more eager Browncoats spreading the word on how great the TV show was and how great the movie will be. Left is Shielah who did the bulk of the organizing for the table. In the middle is Joanne who made the fortune cookies with a bunch of Serenity fortunes.

Here I am with Adam and the glass etching I made as a gift for the raffle to rasie funds for Charity. Adam loved it and signed it (when I was away fro the flan table). He was very apprciative of all our efforts and is a great guy.

....and here I am with Kenny Baker with me and my R2. My R2 is complete RC lights and sounds. Kenny was a great guy but he was signing for hours which must be very tiring. FYI-Kenny Baker is the actor who played R2D2 in the STar Wars movies
