Progress seems to be going slow with all teh sanding and puttying so I decided to start the engine section. It took me a bit to figure out what material to use. A trip to the local plastics place found various types of material that can be used. This is solid PVC and is relatively cheap compared to other choices. I started off turning as much of it as I could at work. This would make it hopefully easier for me at home. I decided to make it in 3 section to make it easier for my small lathe at home. It turned out to be almost too big for my hobby lathe. |
It took a few hours but I did 2 of the 3 sections. |
I had a little accident as the bit got jammed and the part got slightly damaged in a couple of spots. Here is one ding. It does not look too bad |
This one is more of a gouge. Hopefully fixing it will not be too hard |
The second piece turned out OK |
Together and compared to the drawing |
The two parts |
It took some playing with my hobby lathe to get it to turn these parts but in the end I think they turned out great |
