Into a different direction today. Tomorrow I will return to the model. I was not sure how long this would take or if it would work but it went faster then I thought. In August at a Sci-Fi convention our Canadian Browncoats group will have a fan table to promote the movie. At the con will be Adam. We thought to generate interest we would try and raise money for charity. One idea was to have a raffle. This will hopefully be one of the prizes. We thought to make it a bit more special we can get it signed by Adam. Start off with a stylized image of Jayne. Next I cut out the dark parts with an exacto knife |
Not being sure how it would look I decide to use both the positive and negative images. After cutting them out I glue them to glass using a UHU stick and hope removal of the paper will be easy later |
I am not sure how this image will look etched in glass. |
This is the image I think will look the best etched in glass. |
Since the paper will not hold up well to the glass etching compound I airbrush Acrylic paint onto the images |
I then peel away the paper. A hair dryer helped pull the paper off |
Here are the glass plates with the paint on them. Now they look nice but I am not confident of their durability so I will etch the glass |
The image I am not sure will look good |
The one I think will look good. The acrylic paint will prevent the etching chemicals from attacking the glass. So whatever glass is exposed will be etched. There was still some paper and glue left on the glass so I had to clean it off and be careful not to damage the paint surface. |
The chemical. Purchased from an art store. Note that this is very corrosive. I use latex gloves when handling the stuff and work over a sink. This stuff is like peanut butter. I spread it onto the glass. I wait for a minute and then I wash the stuff off. Since the glass pieces are larger then my sink I use the shower. During this washing process the acrylic paint also comes off. |
Half an hour later and the glass is etched. Woot |
This is the one I thought would look better. If held up to a certain background it looks good. |
This one turned out better then I thought sitting on the table. With a proper wall behind it, it should look good |
Glass put back into the frames and ready to go. The logo might actually be harder. |
