Polaris 23 - July 8, 2009
A few items I made for the Sci-Fi convention Polaris 23. The first is a pirates chest to be used for the Pirate Ball on Friday
Start off with blue Styrofoam cut out and hot glued together
Next using the hot glue gun tip I textured the Styrofoam to make it look worn
A base coat of brown
Then black is airbrushed into the recessed areas and to give it some wood grain. This is finished with a light overall coat of light grey to make it look aged.
Here is the inside of the box. The bottom is not painted since it will be filled with stuff
Next add the hardware from a used laundry basket
The handles and the lock really add to the feel of the box
Now filled with booty and it looks fairly good
Next are some glass etchings I made to get signed by some of the guests. I always make a positive and negative as this is how the templates are made. One will look better with a white background while the other one will look better with a dark background.
