Revell 1:25 Acura Integra Type R

Kit No 85-2572

This was a quick build out of the box that I did in a week. This was a joke for a club meeting for a member that doesn't view Japanese cars as real cars.

The kit assembly was actually very good for a North American manufacturer. The engine was nicely detailed. There are 2 choices for the front spoiler and rear bumper. There is also 3 choices for the rear wing. You also get 5 choices for the wheels.

To emphasize the Japenese theme I made up a decal of a dragon and put ths on the hood of the car. I also found a coupe of dragon decals from an F-4 kit. As another joke I put a Tamiya logo on the rear window. The engine was slammed together to test fit the parts. Fit was very good. I had some fit problems with the rear taillight covers. They were just slightly out but it is hard to see.

I could not fit the front headlight covers on so I left them off. I actually think they look better this way. To simulate race cars wheel nuts I painted the wheels on one side clear red and the other side clear blue. The clear paint allows the chrome wheels colour to show through to give it a metallic look.

For the paint job I used Alclads flip flop blue to green paint. I first painted the body a gloss black as in the Alclad instructions before putting the Alclad on. When it was done the flip flop look ed good but looked slightly odd on the car so what I did was spray some clear Tamiya blue over top. This darkened the paint and I thought it looked better. You still get the flip flop effect.

The kit was full of little surprises. Also included in the kit is a white metal chromes exhaust pipe. Very nice. I highly recommend the kit for the variety of models that you can build and the good fitting parts. Hopefully this will change the subjects that the North American model companies will put out.
