Doc Brown Hat
For a local Sci-Fi convention the Thursday party theme was Enchantment Under The Sea which was the name of the dance in the movie Back To The Future where Marty 's parents first kiss. I originally had no idea for a costume except a suit with maybe 3D glasses if I could find some. While researching what tie to wear I came across a photo of the headgear that Doc Brown wear when he first meets Marty in the past. Of course a light bulb went on in my head and there was a mad rush to get this done. The hat is nowhere near accurate but from what references I could find the basic shape is correct.
5:45pm I happened to have some 1 inch wide strips of styrene from another project that I can use.
6:05pm I have roughly cut out the various shapes using templates I had made up earlier.
6:23pm I used a sanding machine to refine the shapes to the final dimensions
6:39pm. The basic shape is coming together
6:51pm. The final shape is done. There is some problems with the lower diagonal pieces. However with no time to redo the pieces I make do.
8:02pm. The lights are not the correct ones but I had only orange LEDs to use so 13 are wired up. No time to test things as I go along so on a wing and a prayer I hope everything works.
8:15pm. Scramble to find some battery holder. I find a Halloween headpiece that I rip apart to use the battery boxes. The wires are too small gauge so I have to replace them. I also use the small switch that was in the Halloween headpiece
Yay all the LEDs work
8:19pm. I can not find a hardhat I am sure I have somewhere so I glue it to my army type helmet for now.
