Star Wars 1:2 Scale AT-ST

Last Updated Nov 1 2006

My friend wanted to dress up his house in a Star Wars theme. We were trying to think of something big to build. The original idea was a full scale seeder bike. This would be something that kids would be able to sit on. Well that sounded ok but not terribly exciting. Then came the idea of a half scale AT-ST. Since we were running out of time (6 weeks) and only weekends to build it we could not be 100% accurate.

There were some other items that we wanted but we ran out of time. Maybe next year.

Well the day came and there was quite a bit of work at the last minute but we got it looking presentable. Here it is with my droids. Next we will refine the details.

It was a major hit with the neighbourhood. The AT-ST, droids, troper and Jedi looked excellent. My friend is a Sandtrooper. The 3 Jedis has MR FX sabers. During the few quiet times when kids were not around we would do some simple dueling. The effect looked excellent in the dark. My friend put a spotlight on the AT-ST and that really made it stand out.

We moved the AT-ST closer to the house since it was quite windy and the house acted like a shield. The kids loved it so much that quite a few of them forgot to ask for candy. I noticed quite a few kids return to take a second and third look.

Later on word got around as cars were pulling up and people were getting out to look. They would also forget to ask for candy.

I thought this was a one shot deal but my friend wants to do it again next year.
