Hobby Craft 1:300 Air Canada 747-400 Kit No HC1142

July 27, 2001
This kit was built out of the box.

A relatively simple kit with around 30 parts. No major problems during assembly. The undercarriage and wheels are poorly detailed. The stand is included in the kit but does not include a label for the base.

I painted the model a Plastikote semi-gloss white base. The green for the rear tail is Xtracolor X320 Airliners Air Canada Teal Green. The instructions call for dark grey and aluminum. The grey was a Tamiya acrylic medium grey and the aluminum was Testors Non-buffing Aluminum metalizer.

I masked the model using Tamiya tape and found few problems with this paint scheme.

Decals are the maple leaf logo on the rear wing the Air Canada words and logo and the small windows. The cockpit windows have to be painted in and I did this with a .01 black marker. The instructions were fairly clear with the decal placement except for the white numbers that are supposed to go on the top of the fin on both sides. All the other windows and doors are decals. The decals were missing one set of doors even though the instructions show them.

The detail in the wheels are not great and all sets of wheels do not touch the ground due to misalignment of the moulds
