Cutting Chain

March 30 2003

For the feet kit the wheels are chain driven. At some point you will have to make a chain the proper length which means you will have to cut the chain. Here is a quick method using a Dremel Tool

This is a chain cutter and the quickest method to get the job done.

Here is the chain and a Dremel tool with a cut off wheel

The first step is to grind down the head of the pin. The bottom chain length is the one we want. Mare sure the correct connector is ground down. If you grind down the incorrect connector you can not join the chain later on. With the head of the pin ground down you might be able to push the pin out with a pair of plyers. If not go to the next step.

After grinding down the pin cut the end plate through the pin. Cut completely through but try not to cut into the plate underneath as we are going to need this. The bottom chain is the one we are going to keep.

The end should then come off. Again try and pull the pin out. If it still will not come out you will have to repeat the grinding and cutting on the opposite side

With the other side also cut off the pin will then come out of the chain.

Here is the joining chain we are going to use to join the chain

Getting ready to join the chains

Slip the main body into the two chain halves that are to be joined. Here is where you find out if you cut the wrong side of the chains off.

Next the plate slides on top

The clip is now ready to go on.
